About Us

Founded in 2009, South Shore Fitness delivers a more intentional approach to training—where expert coaching, structured programming, and accountability come together to produce real, lasting results.
We tailor our approach to each individual, creating a system that fits your life while challenging you to improve.
More than a gym, this is a community built on standards, consistency, and progress.
At South Shore Fitness, we are more than a workout—we are a catalyst for meaningful, lasting change.
We exist to help people become stronger, healthier, and more capable—not just physically, but in how they show up in every aspect of life. Through expert coaching, intentional programming, and a culture built on accountability and respect, we create an environment where progress is expected and supported.
For many, this becomes more than a gym. It becomes a third place—a space outside of work and home where you can reset, challenge yourself, and be fully authentic.
No matter your background, experience, or starting point, everyone here is on their own path—but never alone. We train together, push through challenges together, and celebrate growth together.
Because when individuals improve, everything around them improves.
That’s the mission.
South Shore Fitness was built long before the name.
Doug Acker and Tara Krieger were brought together by fitness in 2002—when Tara was Doug’s personal trainer. If you think Coach Tara is tough now, just imagine what Doug went through back then.
From the start, one thing stood out: her standard.
While most trainers followed a generic, one-size-fits-all approach, Tara coached differently. Every movement mattered. Every person mattered. There was no “going through the motions”—only precision, accountability, and a refusal to cut corners.
Doug saw it immediately—and respected it.
As Tara began talking about opening her own facility, Doug became both a sounding board and a partner in bringing that vision to life. She wanted to create a place where people weren’t just given workouts—they were coached. Where goals were understood, and the path to reaching them was intentional.
In that search for a better system, she found CrossFit.
Doug wasn’t convinced at first—but one workout changed everything.
It exposed weaknesses, demanded effort, and delivered something missing from traditional training: a real challenge. He was hooked almost immediately.
In 2009, they opened the doors to CrossFit South Shore.
Over the years, they built more than a gym. They built a standard. Coaching nearly every class themselves, Doug and Tara created an environment where people could train with purpose, be held accountable, and see real progress—whether the goal was fat loss, strength, or simply feeling better.
That foundation still defines who we are today.
But over time, one thing became clear: real fitness isn’t one method—it’s the right approach, applied to the right person, at the right time.
That realization led to our evolution.
Today, South Shore Fitness represents a more refined and complete training model. We’ve moved beyond a single methodology to focus on what actually works—combining strength, conditioning, and longevity-focused training into a system designed for real people and real results.
What hasn’t changed is our standard.
We still believe in coaching over “clipboarding.”
We still believe movement should be done right.
And we still take pride in being, when necessary… a little bit of a pain in the ass.
Because that’s what gets results.
